What you'll learn:

You’ll learn about topics that are recognized to be effective in online teaching yet they really can be applied in any modality, so if you’re teaching remotely, in a hybrid format, or in a traditional classroom, our goal is that you’ll learn something new that you can apply immediately.

Module and Content:

This self-paced learning experience is designed to share strategies for designing and teaching online courses. Using Canvas, participants will complete activities as students, using technologies and pedagogy designed to enhance online learning. The information and resources in this experience have been created and curated over the last decade by our group with a focus on effective practices in online and digital education.

Learning Objectives:

  • Contribute to a learning community
  • Demonstrate proficient Canvas navigation from the student perspective
  • Describe key components of online student success
  • Apply question design principles to facilitate effective and engaging class discussions
  • Explain the value of implementing the Quality Matters Rubric in course design
  • Identify instructional alignment using Bloom’s Taxonomy
  • Analyze various pedagogical approaches for delivering course content online
  • Describe design and delivery techniques of effective lectures
  • Prepare content for optimizing instructor presence in an online course
  • Create a plan for implementing course resources in an online course

Who is this certificate designed for:

Participants should be instructors in an online degree program offered at a college or university or instructors who have moved their face-to-face courses to a digital environment.

What you'll receive:

Upon finishing this certificate, students will receive an online certificate of completion.

Meet the instructor:

DeAnna Soth

Assoc Director Instructional Design, EdPlus, Arizona State University

DeAnna Soth is an Associate Director of Instructional Design at ASU Online, EdPlus. She has designed higher education curriculum for over 10 years, in a wide variety of disciplines. She has two master’s degrees, in Adult Education and in Liberal Studies. DeAnna is also an ASU alumni and a first generation college graduate.

DeAnna has taught and co-designed ASU101, a one-credit class about student success, and has co-taught Master Class for Teaching Online for several years. Her teaching experience also involves corporate training and activism. DeAnna teaches basic makeup classes for women undergoing cancer treatment for Look Good Feel Better.
